How to Prevent / Reduce Caregiver Stress?

Updated on: July 3rd, 2021 • Resource: Caregiver, Mental Health

It can be quite satisfying to look after an elderly family member at home, but the constant handling of responsibilities, worries and anxieties can often burn out a caregiver, especially with his / her own personal and professional commitments always to be maintained. Here are some tips that will help you to prevent or reduce home caregiver stress.

Learn stress-management exercises

When you learn Yoga, Tai-Chi or other stress-management exercises, you can learn how to deal with stress. This can be a great exercise to improve your overall health. It can help relax and balance you, and do a lot to improve your mental well-being.

Ask your friends / family to help

This can be a more affordable way to get help, instead of hiring a professional. You can have an idea about the quality of care that you can obtain for your parent. However, if you lack reliable friends or family members to help you out, it can be better to hire professional, non-medical caregivers for a short term for assistance. You can get some relief from the everyday demands on you.

Take a break

It can be quite tough to look after an elderly parent. By taking a break now and then, having someone to look after your elderly dear one, you can get away from the everyday grind. It can give you some time to get yourself recharged. Make proper arrangements to go away for a few days and arrange for assistance from family members / friends, or professional caregivers or volunteers from your community.
