How To Become A Paid Caregiver In Massachusetts

Unfortunately, potential caregivers may be deterred by the significant amount of time, energy, and money required. Luckily, programs are available to offer compensation for caregivers in Massachusetts, including Mass Care Link.
Many caregivers put a strain on themselves financially and eventually have to give up. Before deciding to take on this full-time role, stop and assess the compensation options out there. Here are a few to consider:
- Veterans Aid allows veterans to manage their care and may cover assisted living, nursing home, and in-home care costs, including paying family caregivers.
- MassHealth Adult Foster Care may provide a monthly payment and professional support when an eligible member lives with a qualified caregiver. The caregiver must be at least 18 years old, live in the same qualified home, and cannot be the member’s spouse or court-appointed legal guardian. A parent cannot be paid through the program to care for a child under age 18.
- Medicaid’s Self-Directed Services Program grants persons the option to manage their money themselves to pay for goods and services, including hiring caregivers.
- Determine if your company offers caregiver compensation. Some companies provide paid leave for caregiving employees or other benefits.
- Find out if your family is willing to pay you for your time. Since you will be saving your family a lot of money and time, they may be willing to compensate you for your efforts.
Mass Care Link is a Massachusetts Adult Foster Care provider, not an insurance company. A potential member generally must be a Massachusetts resident age 16 or older, have eligible MassHealth coverage, need daily physical assistance or cueing and supervision with at least one qualifying activity of daily living, and live with an eligible caregiver.
