How do I become a paid caregiver for a family member in Massachusetts?

You may be able to receive a caregiver payment through Massachusetts Adult Foster Care when both the person receiving care and the caregiver meet the applicable requirements.

The person receiving care generally must be at least age 16, have qualifying MassHealth coverage, need daily physical assistance or cueing and supervision with at least one qualifying activity of daily living, and be able to receive care safely in an approved home setting.

The caregiver generally must be at least age 18, live with the person receiving care, satisfy the provider’s approval requirements, and not be the member’s spouse or court-appointed legal guardian. A parent cannot be the paid caregiver for a child under age 18.
