How do I become a caregiver in Massachusetts?

A prospective Adult Foster Care caregiver generally must be at least age 18, live in the same qualified home as the person receiving care, be capable of providing the required personal care and supervision, and complete the provider’s screening, documentation, training, and approval process.

The caregiver cannot be the member’s spouse or court-appointed legal guardian. A parent cannot be the paid caregiver for a child under age 18. The person receiving care must separately satisfy the applicable MassHealth coverage and clinical requirements.
