A to Z of Caregiving

Updated on: August 3rd, 2019 • Resource: Adult Foster Care, Caregiver

In our daily lives, we spend a lot of time with our family members. We take care of our those elders who suffer from disabilities or have severe illness however, this look after does not fall in the category of caregiving because we do this work with our will and we enjoy doing it, but people can get tired of doing so much service if the workload gets way too much and to make sure that the elder receives the proper care and you do not feel stressed you can take the services of a caregiver.

A thing of great concern is that caregiving is very difficult in the rural areas because such areas do not have the availability of modern equipment and a good number of physicians and therapists. Moreover, most of the workforce from the rural areas shift to the urban areas for most job opportunities.

According to top stats sites almost 44 million people in the US spend around 37 billion hours yearly in the free of cost care of their elders, and if we calculate the total amount for this duration then it turns out to be around $300 billion therefore, you can see how much importance all the adult care programs have in the world and especially in the US. Moreover, the stats have also shown that around 75% of such caregivers are females, and it proves that women play a vital role in the caregiving industry.

So, the caregiver could be the non-paid family member too, but in our context, a caregiver is the one who provides caring services to the elders or adult patients in return for money. The stats have also shown that the number of people who would reach the age mark of 70 years would be doubled till the year 2030 which means a lot more jobs in the caregiving industry, and this is why more and more industries are developing solutions for caregiving and are investing in this industry.

You should know that a caregiver is mostly used by those people who are in the later stage of their lives and have a severe illness or have disabilities. A caregiver is not less an angel for such people because of the amount of relief he/she provides to the patient or enrollee. However, at Mass Care Link, caregivers are paid on a monthly basis for providing home care.
