Would I be able to receive payment for taking care of son/daughter with autism?

A parent caring for a son or daughter with autism may potentially qualify for caregiver payment when the child is age 18 or older and all Adult Foster Care requirements are met. An autism diagnosis by itself does not establish eligibility.

The person receiving care generally must have qualifying MassHealth coverage and need daily physical assistance or cueing and supervision with at least one qualifying activity of daily living. A parent cannot be the paid caregiver through this program for a child under age 18. For an eligible member age 16 or 17, another qualified adult who is not the parent or legal guardian may potentially serve as caregiver.
